Play Dough Recipe:

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable or canola oil
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
  • 1 to 1.5 cups boiling water
  • Gel food colouring
  • 2-3 drops of Essential Oils (optional)

The water will be added in small amounts until it feels just right.

Essential Oils can be added as an optional extra which makes the play dough smell amazing.

  • Mix the flour, cream of tartar, oil and salt  in a large mixing bowl
  • Put the boiling water into a bowl or jug and add the food colouring and essential oils (optional).
  • Add the coloured boiling water to the dry ingredients.
  • Stir until it is combined into a sticky dough.
  • Allow the dough to cool down before taking it out of the bowl.
  • Knead the dough ‘energetically’ for a few minutes until the stickiness goes away.

Keep kneeding it until you get to the right consistency….. this is an important part!

  • If the dough remains sticky you can add a small amount of flour at a time until the consistency is just right.
